It's what happens in that six seconds

I haven't seen the movie in years, and it's on my list of ones to watch again. But I just haven't gotten to it. Last year around Christmas time I made a real effort to find some old movies that I wanted to get. One of those was Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry. It's an old Peter Fonda movie with a girl, a bank robbery, and fast cars in chase scenes. I was 9 when it was made, so it was obviously one of my favorites at the time! Several years ago as an adult, I started amassing a sizable collection of videos of some of the best car chases and car racing movies of all time. I had the go-to favorites, like Bullet, the original Gone in 60 Seconds, along with Two Lane Blacktop, Vanishing Point, American Graffiti, Hollywood Knights, and many others. I lost them all when my house was burglarized and the thief took the time to pick and choose which videos he did and didn't want to leave me with.
Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry never made it into that collection, but I did get it last year for Christmas. I haven't added many of the others I lost to the new collection yet... my enthusiasm isn't what it used to be I guess. Besides, I have other movies that aren't automotive related, like the one referenced in the title of this post, that I want to see first. Do you know what it is?
It's a bit of a cult classic these days, and Matt Modine was great in it. It featured big hair, bad acting, killer soundtrack, and a great story line like so many other movies of the same era. I think it's more popular around here because of the fact that it was filmed in Spokane Wa. and so many people who were there at the time have since fled to... here. It's a popular thing to do, really... no one intentionally stays in Spokane. They either have to, or they are just too lazy to do anything about it.
But I digress... the name of the movie is Vision Quest, and the movie has a dynamic to it that is hard for me to put my finger on. It's got an element that makes you really want this kid to win his wrestling match... and succeed in his goals. But the best line in the movie is when Elmo is relaying his story to Louden, the main character, about the time he saw Pele playing soccer on television. There's no way I can do it justice here, so I'll just tell you to search it on youtube and you'll find it quite easily. But the line that he says, that makes the whole movie worth it...

It ain't the six minutes... it's what happens in that six minutes.
